Harvest Intern Begins Fourth Consecutive Unpaid Career
27-year-old brings two continents of experience and $1,900 to legendary house.
Arriving before dawn to begin what he described as an incredible opportunity to learn from a legendary house, 27-year-old harvest intern Emmett Voll started his fourth consecutive unpaid full-time career in the wine industry Monday, sources confirmed. “This is exactly where I want to be. You can’t learn this in a classroom,” said Voll, who has now completed harvests on two continents and possesses an encyclopedic working knowledge of pumpovers, forklifts, and pressure washing, along with $1,900 and a beat up old Toyota Camry the winemaker generously sold him for $3,000. “They said if I really prove myself this year there could be a permanent spot in the cellar. There was one last year too. It went to a guy whose dad we buy fruit from.” Voll added that he loved the work and would be doing it again in Mendoza in February.
